Special Education in Alternative Learning

Serving Educators In Non-tradisonal Special Education

MN Project SEAL becomes

Project SENSE

A more inclusive approach.

Project SEAL started as a cooperative effort of three of the most influential groups in Minnesota overseeing the delivery of Special Education services within alternative learning contexts. These groups identified a need for increased communication as a means to promote best practice strategies to improve compliance with special education laws and regulations.

In the past year, our focus has increased to include other non-traditional sites in which special education takes place. Care and Treatment , Day Treatment, Charter Schools, and Non-public sites have similar needs to Alternative programs, so the inclusion of all of these into a broader spectrum seemed logical. Hence, the onset of Project Sense.

Check out this flyer to see our transition.

MDE Grant
This SEAL project was made possible through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.  Without the fiscal support afforded by this grant, the effort to promote communication and collaboration would be much more difficult.  Our thanks are extended to all individuals that put forth great effort in making this happen. MDE has chosen to extend funding to support the process of expanding the purpose of this project.  This wa made possible through a great deal of effort by Mary Beth Schafer.

Thanks
Special thanks go to May Beth Schafer, Robyn Widley, Bonnie Carlson, Cheryl Staton, Terry Lydell, Glory Kibbel, Marilyn Morgan, Daryl Miller, Dr. Norena Hale, and the leadership teams from MAAP and MASE.

MDE aims to improve educational achievement by establishing clear standards, measuring performance, assisting educators and increasing opportunities for lifelong learning. .
